Clubnotes 7th November 2017   07/11/2017

Congratulations to Hazel Prior on playing a major part in the ongoing dominance of Dublin over Kerry. Hazel lined out in midfield for the Dublin U13 football development squad against Kerry at the weekend and as we all know, you can never tire of beating Kerry!  Well done Hazel, great work.

Hard luck to the U21 footballers who were narrowly beaten in the Championship on Saturday, despite great performances all round.

Our U21 hurlers are in action again this Saturday, this time in the Championship Quarter-Final away to Naomh Olaf, throw-in at 14:30. After such a great display against O'Toole's the lads will face a tougher challenge here so all support will be greatly appreciated. Directions here.

The Inter footballers Division 3 play-off final has been deferred to Sunday November 19th, away to Ballyboughal. This final is a great achievement for the players and management as they are on the cusp of promotion back to the Senior ranks after a sojourn in the Intermediate world. This is the culmination of a really great year for the team, peppered with fantastic wins and outstanding performances. The match is fixed as a home game for Ballyboughal and while the North County has many virtues, deference to visiting opposition teams in promotion finals is not widely noted so every scrap of support will be required on the day. Please take note of the directions supplied and get out there in droves!

Now that all the more important sport seasons are coming to and end, some of you may start looking elsewhere for your sporting fix. After some extensive searching, we've found something you might like; the Republic of Ireland ground football team are playing away to Denmark on Saturday night. The match will be screened live in Áras Bharróg on all the tellies, so you won't miss a moment of the action while you're queuing up for the fantastic drinks promotions available - 3 for a tenner on selected long necks and 3 pint bottles Orchard Thieves for €12. Throw in on the night will be at 19:45 and after the 0-0 draw you can stay for live music by Loose Change. Remember, your country needs you... in the Áras bar drinkin' and cheerin' and havin' the craic.

The following Friday night we have a treat with two great tribute bands; Proud Mary are a top Tina Turner soundalike act and they're supporting Waterloo playing a vast array of, surprisingly, ABBA hits. Admission is practically free at €5, sure where would you get it?

The club's quartermaster general, Alan Martin, has a beautiful range of exquisitely designed and executed giftwear for that special gael in your life, ranging from the stylish and practical to the decadently ostentatious. All these items will be available to be purchased exclusively at the Naomh Barróg section of Brown Thomas or if the train strike continues you can just meander down to the shop of a Saturday morn and see the man himself for a personal fitting. No, not Santy, Alan.

Mini Leagues continue on Saturday morning at 10am. We had a great turnout last Saturday, the beautiful crisp autumnal weather providing the backdrop to a marvellous morning. This year has seen a surge of interest from girls and the numbers are continuing to rise. This may be down to the phenomenal achievements of the Dublin ladies team in winning the All Ireland and thanks to them for that but it's also a great endorsement of the work of the club over the years. Mini Leagues are the lifeblood of the club and it applies just as much for the ladies section as the men's. Don't forget to push ladies gaelic football and camogie to any budding sports stars in your family and think of Hazel above who started in Mini Leagues as well as Laura McGinley and all the other great players we have who have worn Naomh Barróg and Dublin shirts.

The mentor’s meeting takes place on Wednesday at 9pm and we need all teams to make an effort to send a representative.

The Annual Mass for Deceased Members takes place this year on Saturday 18th November at 7:15pm. As well as a memorial for past members, it's an opportunity to meet club members you mightn't have seen for a while, people who were involved in all different aspects of the club's development over the last 40 odd years.

There was no winner of last week’s Lotto Jackpot, numbers drawn were 6, 8, 9 & 24. This week’s jackpot will be €7,600. thinking of taking up the piano? This one will be grand!
